With the commute to Santa Cruz to Sunnyvale wearing on him, he decided to send out the tape to local television stations to see if any of them would bite. “I was practically tripping over myself to get out there, knowing how close I was going to be living in the best surf town in the U.S.”ĭuring his college days Solomon did an internship at a local cable station, where, for fun, he made a tape of a weather broadcast. “When I was offered the position with WNI, I soon realized I could live in Santa Cruz and commute to Sunnyvale,” Solomon said. WNI - which has the same functionality as an air-traffic controller - provides ship routing for more than 1,500 ships worldwide. Solomon earned his second degree in Meteorology from Stony Brook University in New York.Īrmed with another diploma, he found work 3,000 miles away, at Weather News Incorporated in Sunnyvale.
